Commuter Rail Planning | Commuter Rail Strategic Plan | Commuter Rail System Study Commuter Rail: Grand Avenue (BNSF) | Commuter Rail: Yuma-West (UPRR) | Commuter Rail Stakeholders The Stakeholders Group is comprised of stakeholders from throughout the MAG planning area, including cities and towns, business organizations, transportation advocates, and other interested parties. Over the course of the next year, the Stakeholders Group will meet four times to review and provide input into the MAG commuter rail planning process. The Stakeholders will participate in and review several rail studies being conducted by MAG, as outlined below: Grand Avenue Commuter Rail Corridor Development Plan This study will determine the feasibility of implementing commuter rail service along the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) Phoenix Subdivision between Phoenix and Wickenburg, Arizona, a distance of approximately 54 miles. The final product will be a Corridor Development Plan that will describe the elements necessary to successfully implement commuter rail transit service in the Grand Avenue Corridor. UP Yuma West Commuter Rail Corridor Development Plan This study will determine the feasibility of implementing commuter rail service along the Union Pacific (UP) Yuma West rail line between Buckeye in the west and either the Union Station in downtown Phoenix or to the UP Tempe branch line in Tempe, Arizona. The final product will be a Corridor Development Plan that will describe the elements necessary to successfully implement commuter rail transit service along this corridor. MAG Commuter Rail System Study The purpose of this study is to evaluate commuter rail options for the MAG region and the potential connecting routes immediately adjacent to the MAG region. The study will establish priorities for implementing commuter rail service through an evaluation of ridership potential, operating strategies, and associated capital and operating costs. Both existing freight corridors and possible rail extension areas identified in the Commuter Rail Strategic Plan will be evaluated as part of the study. |
