PROJECT

Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Project Evaluations

The purpose of the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) Program is to provide federal funding to projects and programs designed to assist nonattainment and maintenance areas in complying with air quality standards. For each year that CMAQ funds are available, MAG conducts a project evaluation to estimate air quality benefits of proposed projects. The project evaluations assist technical and modal committees in the review process prior to recommending projects for addition to the Transportation Improvement Program. MAG has developed methodologies for evaluating proposed CMAQ projects and the latest CMAQ Methodologies Workshop was held on June 28, 2005.
