Safe Routes to School Programs
look different from community to community. Yet they all share the common goal to improve the health of kids and the community by making walking and bicycling to school safer, easier and more enjoyable.
2009 MAG Regional School Crossing Guard Training Workshop
We would like to invite school crossing guards and interested school officials that serve in school districts within Maricopa County to attend either of two half-day Regional School Crossing Guard Training Workshops
that will be held at the beginning of school year in 2009. The first workshop will be held on July 30,
2009 in Peoria, and the second will be held on August 6, 2009 in Mesa. We are organizing these
workshops as part of a regional effort to improve road safety on access routes to elementary and
middle schools. The workshop content was developed in partnership with a number of cities in the
Phoenix metropolitan region. We hope to see participation by schools in your district. There is no
cost to attend either workshop.
News & Events
November 1, 2008 - MAG produced “Guardians of the Future: Keeping Children Safe in Yellow Crosswalks” School Crossing Guard training DVD. This was made possible through a regional partnership that included traffic safety professionals from the cities: Avondale, Glendale, Mesa, Peoria, Phoenix and Tempe, and also MAG staff. The technical production of the video was carried out by the Communications Group at MAG. The DVD contains both English and Spanish versions.
This video is utilized at our annual school crossing guard training workshops. While these regional workshops are held once a year in early August, school officials are responsible for providing training to new crossing guards that come on board mid-year. The goal of this video is to serve as a training resource for city and school officials in providing basic road safety information that every school crossing guard should be made aware. We have distributed copies of this video to all schools districts in Maricopa County.
If you would like to receive additional copies of the DVD please contact Judy Tadlock at (602) 254-6300 or email your request to: jtadlock@mag.maricopa.gov
